The Canadian Intercultural Association of Community Development (CIACD) organized a day of fun and games for seniors on Yoga day. More than 150 men and women converged at the Milliken District Park to celebrate on June 21.
The event entitled Picnic in the Park began at 11 am where outdoor festivities enabled the men and women to socialize and network. As well, people participated in yoga and exercise to commemorate International Yoga Day. Markham Ward 6 Councillor Amanda Collucci also joined the event and talked to the participants.
“We are a community-based organization focused on helping make the world around us a better, happier place. With the help of our tireless volunteers, we organize weekly get-togethers, exciting community-building events, health and wellness for all ages and in-depth training sessions on various topics beneficial for people of all ages and backgrounds,” said Neetu Gupta, president of the organization.
The organization puts together a bunch of activities and events through the year to provide benefits to the community with the help of volunteers.
“Such activities provide seniors with an opportunity to address isolation and mingle with each other. We are always looking for volunteers and community members to help us make our vision a reality,” said Madhu Suri, vice president of CIACD.
“On Mondays, we organize a session with our senior community members. We start off the program with one hour of exercises followed by games, activities, and awareness sessions on different topics followed by a healthy lunch. This gives an opportunity for all members to come and support each other and make new friends,” said Aman Randhawa, General Secretary of the volunteer organization.
Upcoming events include Trinjan Mela Teeyan Da and a cruise around the Toronto Harbour.
