Ace Choreographer Saroj Khan
BY STAFF REPORTER, TORONTO:
She is known to create and sculpt the heartthrobs and dance divas of Bollywood. She has taught them all, moulding their dancing skills until they harmonize them with perfect synchronization. Ace choreographer Saroj Khan, who has trained Bollywood dance queens, the likes of Madhuri Dixit and Sridevi, is all set to conduct the first of its kind dance workshops for Bollywood dance aficionados in Toronto and Ottawa.
Entitled Dance Diaries with Saroj Khan, the workshops presented by Sanskriti Arts and Imagebuilderz, aim to give Bollywood fans a once in a lifetime opportunity to learn from the Maestro herself.
The Toronto workshop will run for four days from March 25 to March 28 and will include two classes – the kids class for age groups 5-11 years and adult classes for age groups 12 and above. It will take place in the Sanskriti Arts Dance and fitness studios in Mississauga.
Participants who attend more than two sessions of the workshop will also get the unique opportunity to perform live on stage with Dance Maestro Saroj Khan herself.
“It’s all about learning from the pioneers who started it. We all live and breathe Bollywood and this 4-day intensive workshop is an opportunity to learn from the Masters themselves. Khan, who has choreographed songs for over 2000 films, is credited with creating dance moves for some of Bollywood’s most popular numbers including Ek Do Teen from Tezaab, Dhak Karne Laga from Beta and more recently Gun Guna Re from Agneepath and Dil Mera Muft Ka from Agent Vinod.
“The main motivation behind this is to provide a cross cultural dance platform for kids and adults in Canada and learn from the best of the best in the industry. And who better than Saroj Khan, whose name is synonymous with choreography and Bollywood, to provide that training,” says Renu Mehta, president of Imagebuilderz.
