In a first for Richmond Hill, India’s flag will be raised to celebrate India’s 70th Independence day. PROUD INDIANS OF RICHMOND HILL (PIRH), in partnership with the Town of Richmond Hill, will be celebrating India’s 70th Independence Day and Canada’s 150 anniversary. The event will take place on Saturday, August 26, 2017 at noon at the Municipal Offices of the Town of Richmond Hill, 225 East Beaver Creek Road, Richmond Hill.
“On behalf of the PIRH Board of Directors, Managing Committee and the Town of Richmond Hill, we would like to invite everyone to attend this historical event,” says Mul Raj Sethi, president of PIRH. ” The program will comprise of Flag raising ceremony of both Canada and India followed with live entertainment and refreshments.
The Consul General of India, Mayor of the Town of Richmond Hill as well as several government representatives are expected to participate in this significant initiative.
The newly formed organization’s mandate is to organize social, educational and recreational activities for the community and provide an interesting forum for exchange of ideas and information among the members of the general public. As well, the organization aims to provide intercultural understanding and promote the Canadian way of living.
