TORONTO: Immigration and international students are big money spinners for Canada.
Apart from billions of dollars brought into the country by new immigrants each year, international students also pump over $8 billion into the Canadian economy each year.
Over 265,000 international students in Canada contribute more than $8 billion to the economy and support 86,000 jobs. China has the largest number of students, followed by Saudi Arabia.
Numbering over 12,000 annually, Indian students are the fourth largest group among foreign students coming to Canada each year. In all, there are over 30,000 Indian students studying in Canada.
The Canadian government is developing an education strategy as the numbers of international students globally will increase from 3.7 million in 2009 to 6.4 million by 2025.
After the US, the UK, and Australia, Canada is the fourth favoured destination for international students.
