LONDON: Akshay Kumar feels that his upcoming film Special Chabbis has given him a fresh breath as an actor.
“Special Chabbis has given me an opportunity to re-invent myself as an actor,’’ says the actor.
Akshay has also tried his hands at singing a song ‘Mujh mein tu’ for the film, but he confesses that he was nervous about the task.
“I was literally cursing myself when I went into the recording studio for the first time. But after completing the recording, when I heard it, I liked it and I hope the audience like it too.”
The 45-year-old actor, who is known as the ‘Khiladi’ of the industry, will be essaying the role of Mon Singh, a common man who becomes a conman.
Akshay says, “When I first read the script, I was bowled over. Special Chabbis is an interesting story and will definitely appeal to the masses.”
Special Chabbis is the second film directed by Neeraj Pandey, his first being the much-acclaimed A Wednesday.
Praising Neeraj’s efforts to make the film stay as close to reality as possible, Akshay said, “Directors like Neeraj really know their job. They do their homework well before they embark on any project. It took him three years to put the script together so that it remains as authentic as possible.”
The film also stars Kajal Aggarwal of Singham fame along with veteran actors like Manoj Bajpayee, Anupam Kher and Jimmy Shergill.
While speaking of his co-actors, Akshay says that he always gets something to learn from people around him. “I got to learn so much from my co-stars. In front of them I felt like a complete beginner.”
The film is based on a real heist which took place in 1987 at the Mumbai Opera House when 26 conmen, posing as CBI officers executing a raid, walk away with jewellery worth millions.
Special Chabbis released on February 8.
