BY ROHAN RAI, TORONTO:
There are tributes, and then there are celebrations, the kind that lift a room, stir old memories, and remind people why they fell in love with cinema in the first place. The Sing Along Jamboree, a vibrant homage to Bollywood icon Dharmendra, is attempting to do exactly that. Part musical journey, part communal nostalgia trip, the event promises to bring fans together to relive the actor’s unforgettable filmography through the songs that defined it.
According to organizers, Sheena Singh and Renu Mehta, the event presented in collaboration with the Three Arts Club and Katyayani, will have each song, carefully curated from Dharmendra’s vast repertoire, that will mark a chapter in his storied career. Romantic ballads, high‑energy duets, soulful solos, and the unmistakable swagger of his action‑era hits all found their place in the evening’s lineup.
“We want people to not only sing, but participate in the whole event,” says Singh of Multicultural Calendar who conceptualized the event for Toronto audiences. “We want the audience to laugh at the playful lyrics, sway to the classics, and exchange knowing glances when a personal favorite song is sung. It is a reminder that Dharmendra’s films weren’t just watched; they are lived.”
According to scriptwriter Nidhikant Pandey, the evening will also feature anecdotes about Dharmendra’s early days, his rise to stardom, and the versatility that made him a beloved figure across genres. Fans are also expected to chime in with their own recollections—first movie outings, favorite scenes, and the charm that made Dharmendra a household name.
“Dharmendra’s films have been woven into our lives,” says Mehta of Imagebuilderz, reflecting on the inspiration behind the event. “We wanted to create something that felt intimate and joyful, something that allowed people to reconnect with the music that shaped their memories.”
“There’s a unique energy when people sing together,” says Lily Ahluwalia who will be the narrator for the show along with singer Gary Singh. “These songs carry stories—of youth, of family, of first loves. ”
The event is expected to strike a rare balance: it will honour a legend while celebrating the fans who kept his legacy alive. The Sing Along Jamboree hopes to revisit the past and revive it.
